Have I told you about my car? There was a nasty summer storm on July 29 that had a lot of wind. Somehow, a branch went around my car, hit my windshield (and I was parked front-in against the garage and under the balcony overhang, so it’s like a miracle hit for the branch), shattered the windshield, and made multiple dents in the roof of the car. There was a considerable amount of damage done in a very short period of time. That branch went out in a blaze of glory destruction.
Frequent readers of this blog will think back to July 29 and realize that I had just started another month stay in the hospital. You may think, great timing! Kathleen doesn’t need her car! Right!
After delay upon delay with the insurance company and finally getting the car into the body shop, the shop called me today to tell me it would be ready – probably – by next Friday. It might be later depending on how quickly they can do the paint. This is close to 2 months the car is not usable. Sigh. I'll adjust.
That’s a little bit about how my day and week are going. It’s an inconvenience, nothing I can’t handle, but I’m frustrated and sad and a little strung out about the whole thing.
You may have read between the lines of my misdirection to understand I’m back in the hospital. The Doctor’s office really did all they could to make this chemo an out-patient process, but there were a couple of barriers that we couldn’t overcome quickly. I’m accepting and OK with it, but still frustrated and sad. Things got started with the chemo Tuesday afternoon, so as long as everything goes to plan, I should be able to leave here Saturday night. The Doc even went around to the nurses and the clinical director here to make sure that was the plan. That was really sweet.
Early on in this process some good friends mentioned that we should be prepared for delays and changes in plans and generalized disruptions. They will happen and we'll need to roll with them; they aren't important to the overall goal. Good advice I try to keep close.
So, I’ve put my head down, and can get through the next few days. I still feel good, and I’ve got a book to finish and another to start (and finish! Goals!). Sepp Kuss is still leading the Vuelta and I'm back in my favorite hospital room. See you on the other side.
Good news… you were not IN the car! I’m having fun picturing “a blaze of glory destruction”🌳😱
